Goroka Show 2012

Every year a huge event called the Goroka Show takes place here in Goroka.  Tribal groups from all around Papua New Guinea (PNG) come together to perform dances and singing from their particular area and compete for prizes.  People from all around the world come to see these groups perform and it's pretty spectacular.  This year we went later than usual so most of the groups had already left and there wasn't much to see. The Asaro Mudmen are always a favorite attraction and we caught this guy for a quick picture even though he was already out of his costume.

The Goroka Show is a great place to find PNG items that are harder to find during the rest of the year as well as all your regular artifacts and "bilas" (decorations).

The basket work in the Highlands is incredible!

Nikki shows off her new purchase.  These are great for 9x13 pans!

 Little mini Mudmen.

On the way out we noticed some face painting going on and Sierra and I couldn't pass it up.  I don't think I've had my face painted since I was in high school!

We didn't get too many good photo opportunities of the dancers this year but if you want to see more you can take a look at this album from a few years ago >>> click here
