Bugs of My Life

Each time I step outside I seem to discover more new and strange bugs that fascinate me.  I had a student once who informed me that bugs and insects are very different things, but I can't remember what the difference is, so they'll all be "bugs" on this blog.  I've decided to dedicate an entire page to them here for those interested.  I don't know the names for most of what I find, so feel free to fill me in if you're in the know!

Not sure what this guy is but those horns made me a little nervous.

I wasn't too pleased to find this guy destroying my mint.

***********************************

This guy makes me laugh. :0)  His antennae can't make up their mind which way they want to go, and his eyes look like those plastic bobbly eyes.

***********************************

Cicadas are an ever present part of life here...if not by sight, definitely by sound.  During the day and all through the night cicadas will often serenade us with their high pitched 'trilling' for hours on end.

***********************************

Praying Mantis show up occassionally in all different sizes and colors.  They rock back and forth as stare at you with their huge eyes.

***********************************
I was enjoying this guy in my garden this morning.  He's about the length of my palm.

************************************
My most recent find was this grub as I was walking to the office yesterday.  Ugh.  That's almost an entire meal in itself right there.

This huge moth didn't look like much from far away, but close up it just made you want to snuggle with it! :)
